WW-A Challenge For You & You Capture-Fun

So the theme this week for You Capture is FUN! When I saw this one, I was ready. I knew that Digger and I have loads of fun all the time! And it would be just as fun to capture it, as to do it! But in the back of my mind I kept thinking about a day of fun from the past. It would not let up. A day that I had the camera with me to catch it all. And not just had it with me, but came up with a different way to catch it than I had ever tried before. All that rolled up together made for something really fantastic! Suddenly I had a hilarious set of pictures that truly captured the fun we had that day.

And I know, I KNOW. The point of You Capture is to get your camera out and take new pictures everyday, not pull from the archives. But, I think Beth will forgive me. Because, I hope that this will motivate you to give a new method a try and see what you capture!

The story behind the photos is this. Digger and I often take walks around the neighborhood. We usually walk to the pool. And when the pool is closed, we sometimes play in the grass next to the parking lot. We always find something new. A soccer ball left behind, a hop scotch drawn out, or we make up our own game. This particular day. We basically just chased each other and wrestled in the grass. And for a boy, I don't think there's anything more fun than just that.

As far as the camera, I just kept shooting. I didn't try to catch the perfect face, lighting, background, or moment. I just kept shooting. Click, click, click. No matter where my lens was pointed, I was going to catch something from that day, even if just the grass or the sky. I just let that notion of, I have to get the perfect shot, fall away and tried to keep having fun (while taking pictures).

I don't know about you, but I'm constantly taking pictures. At the park, on a walk, in the house. Digger is used to it. But sometimes I find myself focusing more on the pictures than him. No worries, he lets me know! Then I have to pry the camera out of my hand and just play with him. But then there's no one there to capture us having fun! This 'just keep shooting' method solved this dilemma that day. We had so much fun, he didn't even notice I was taking pictures, and I caught us having fun on camera!

This is just a small sample of the pictures from that day. I took over 100 in all. In order to get the effect I wanted, I couldn't possibly use them all! I used Picasa to make the collage and did not edit the pictures. Obviously the ones chosen were some of the better, easier to see ones. But I assure you, even the pictures that captured blurry things, or far away things are special to me because this day was so special.

So I challenge you to give this a try! Break out of that desire we all have to make the picture perfect and just capture the moment.

"Just keep shooting!"

I promise you won't regret it! And please send me a link and let me see how they turned out!

  4. I can see why you were anxious to share these very 'fun' photos. They really are great and there is a lot of wisdom in what you wrote. We really do need to focus on the perfect moment rather than the perfect shot!
